Jesse’s BAFTA-nominated short film Eyelash encapsulates his style – it’s a visceral balance of beauty and brutality. Young love is undermined by the attritional power of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. Neil Hilborn’s poem OCD provides a compelling, abstract insight into the protagonist’s state of mind. No surprise the film was nominated for or won over 20 awards, including a BFI Future Film Festival Official Selection and The Best Short Film at Thunderdance 2019.

Originally from Brighton and now based in London, Jesse is a young master of combining cinematic grit and human emotion, often accompanying them with an intense physical edge, such as in his short film Bleach or his work for SkySports that captures the training regimen and state of mind of boxer Harlem Eubank.

He’s come a long way since picking up a camera in his teens and documenting his friends at skateparks around his home city. “I became the one who always had a camera” he said in an interview discussing his placement on the YDA shortlist last year. Nothing’s changed there, then.
